The Little Dog Who Refused to Give Up

Some dogs wait to be rescued. Geronimo decided to rescue himself.

When we first encountered this young boy, he spotted our car and started running after us. He ran through different packs of dogs, risking being bitten, determined to catch up. He knew he needed help, and he wasn't about to let the opportunity pass him by. Eventually, he managed to jump onto the back of our truck.

What we found was heartbreaking. Geronimo was skin and bone, severely anaemic and covered in ticks. There were so many feeding on him that his fur actually felt bumpy when you touched it. He was weak, exhausted and had clearly been struggling for some time.

But underneath all that, there was a little fighter with an incredible will to live.

After a day at the veterinary clinic, Geronimo made another decision. He seemed to have decided that this whole house-dog business was rather appealing!

Since then, he's been finding his feet, learning to trust humans and discovering what it means to feel safe. He's fallen in love with his new brothers and sisters, and his intelligence, gentle nature and almost remarkable diplomatic skills shine through every day.

Geronimo is brave, kind, loving and full of hope. He's also quite possibly one of the handsomest boys around!

His journey is a reminder that sometimes all it takes is one chance, one helping hand and a safe place to land.

He ran his heart out to find safety. Now he has a place to call home.
